About the artist



Lim Kay Hiong was born in Shantou, China in 1947 and became a Singapore citizen in 1953. He graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1966. He studied Chinese Brush Painting and Chinese Calligraphy under Fan Chang Tien and See Hiang To.

He was past president of Hua Han Art Society, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts Alumni Association, The Society of Chinese Artists and was vice president of Federation of Art Societies (Singapore). He was also on the Board of Directors, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.

He is currently Ink Painting Lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). He was recently conferred a merit award for the 2005 First International Chinese Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting & Seal-carving grand exhibition, Beijing.

He has previous work experience as an Artwork Illustrator, a Creative Designer and an Art Teacher in a secondary school.

He held solo exhibitions, namely, Charms of Anhui – Lim Kay Hiong Sketch Exhibition, Singapore in 2000, Art of Lim Kay Hiong, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1995, Art of Lim Kay Hiong, Alor Star, Malaysia in 1995 and Art of Lim Kay Hiong, Singapore in 1994

He published the book, Art of Lim Kay Hiong in 1994.

His works are collected as well as commissioned by local and overseas institutions – National Art Museum, Singapore, Art Museum, Hungary, Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, T.H. Koid foundation, Konica Corporation, Sembawang Marine & Offshore Engineering, Shell Philippines Exploration B.V., Hitachi Asia Limited and Kellog Brown & Root. His works are also acquired by private collectors from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Australia, England, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
